Gender imbalance tied to rising far right, says Romania's new EU Commission pick | Radio Schuman

Romania's new pick for the has told Euronews that the growth of far-right nationalism is leading to a reversal in gender equality, and that she has her eyes on an influential position in 's new cabinet, as we feature on Radio Schuman today.

The Romanian government this week withdrew its previous nomination of Victor Negrescu designating newly elected MEP Roxana Mînzatu.

Euronews journalist Shona Murray spoke to 44-year-old Minzatu, a former Secretary of State for European funds, and later for public procurement, hours after her nomination.

We also take a quick look at the gruesome report from Human Rights Watch on forced returns of Syrian refugees by the Cypriot and Lebanese authorities. The NGO claims that the financial help from the EU to on border management has never been conditional on the respect of human rights.
